The Oakbio BioProcess

Our bioprocess converts CO2-containing gases from industrial sources into valuable chemical products including fuels. Industrial sources of waste gas and CO2 are available worldwide and include energy production from coal, cement manufacturing, chemicals production, oil refining, and H2 production. The input gas can contain carbon monoxide and other gases such as NOx and SOx.

In our bioreactor systems, Oakbio’s proprietary microbes consume waste gas. Bioreactor contents are then withdrawn for chemical separation of the product. Water is recovered and recycled to the reactor for re-use. The product may be used directly as a specialty chemical or “drop-in” fuel. Alternatively, the purified chemical may be converted to more valuable products using enzymes, chemical catalysis or another microbial process step.

Our process does not need to be co-located on an industrial site with direct access to waste CO2. The decision to be team-up with a CO2- or H2-generating industrial partner will depend on cost of gas inputs, geographical location and process scale requirement. In some European countries, the availability of carbon-credits for capture of CO2 creates an additional economic incentive for industrial partnership.
